drifting thoughts, dreams, prayers swirling
      up with the smoke from early morning fires
      up through the morning clouds
      up and down the canyons
      through the many dry washes
thoughts filled with much confusion
when did they forget to honor our Earth Mother
her beauty, her children both two-legged & four-legged,
her waters       that giver of life     all threatened
with extinction      because the greedy      would not stop

the warnings were ignored by many
      of the coveting of Her coal, oil, uranium
      of the constant lust for more power
      of the war begun on a lie that still continues
      of the prophecies told long ago

the warnings have been there
      with the hurricanes that ravaged many lands
      with the earthquake and tsunami that wiped out many
      with the torrential rains that flooded many areas
      with the slipping hillsides and senseless loss of life
